Alf Brown

Hi, I'm Alf Brown. What I love most about GridClub is seeing the exciting ideas that the Grid Clubbers come up with for their own pages. GridClub is crammed full of fun things to do and share and it is all provided free. I am lucky to have a job that allows me to work with so many enthusiastic children. Together, we can create many interesting activities for all our members to enjoy.

In my spare time, I try to get out on my mountain bike whenever I can tear myself away from my computer. I enjoy listening to Garage, R 'n B, and Soul Music. I am now trying to learn how to mix music from CDs on my computer.

I look after the GridClub Football Club. I have supported Liverpool since the 70's but would like to see small clubs given more support.

My Favourite place to visit is Portland Jamaica, my parents where born there and when I visited a few years ago I thought the view of the sea from up in the hills was absolutely fabulous. I love Ackee and Salt Fish this is a typical West Indian dish. I was really lucky to be brought up with great Jamaican food and Fish and Chips, the best of both worlds.

Alf Brown is currently the Director of Online Education for Intuitive Media. He holds a B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry from Brighton Polytechnic, and an MA in Curriculum Development and Management from Sussex University.

After spending several years as a Developmental Scientist in the Pharmaceutical Industry, he moved to teaching Science. He immediately knew he had found a calling as he consistently enjoyed the daily interaction with his young students. Alf soon became Head of Science at Westwood High School in Croydon.

While in charge of the Croydon Secondary Science In-Service Training Program, he authored a guide for the use of Information Technology in Science Education for the Open University. He also contributed to teacher education through the Institute of Education and King'sCollege by acting effectively as a teacher mentor.

Alf was then seconded to serve as a Tesco SchoolNet 2000 Advisory Teacher. Here, he created a series of special projects in order to enhance the impact of SchoolNet 2000 in a variety of schools. Among these was a Black and Asian Role Models Event and a Disaster Engineering Challenge.

Experienced and well-trained, Alf brings to Grid Club a unique blending of: scientist, leader and educator. Still, what he brings most is a love children and the sincere desire to provide a rich and enjoyable learning environment for them.
